Do This Before You Run

Joint Circles. A great way to get loose before you take that sometimes creaky first step. Make sure to do both directions on both sides of the body, and check out my video on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn to see how I do it.

(1)   Ankles: With toes on the ground, make big circles with your ankles.

(2)   Knee Circles: Knees go in same direction, making circles around ankles.

(3)   Knees Ins and Outs: Knees go in opposite directions, circling around the ankles.

(4)   Hips: Make circles with hips, maintaining athletic stance so the hip joints can get loose and you’re not using your whole body.

(5)   Torso Twist: Upper body twist.

(6)   Arm Circles forward and back: Same motion as swimming the front crawl and back crawl.

(7)   Shoulder Rolls: A circular shoulder shrug.

(8)   Head Rolls: You may not wish to circle your head all the way around, in which case just go back and forth like a pendulum.
